    September is Suicide Prevention Month Throughout the United States, individuals and organizations are stepping up to recognize September as Suicide Prevention Month. This year’s theme is Working Together to Prevent Suicide. As part of Governor Wolf’s Suicide Prevention Task Force, multiple state agencies, organizations and individuals with lived experiences and their families are working together for the first time on the Pennsylvania statewide suicide prevention plan. Suicide can and does affect everyone. Click on the Suicide Prevention Guide link to download an informational packet that includes ideas and suggestions for activities to help build awareness within your community.

  2. 2nd Annual Oehme Memorial Golf Tournament

    Register to play, sponsor the event or a hole at the 2nd Annual Memorial Golf Tournament. The September 21, 2019 scramble tees off at 1 p.m., followed by a backyard BBQ-style dinner around 5 pm. Jennifer Oehme and their family are grateful for your show of support, in memory of her father, for suicide prevention work locally and to help open up the conversation surrounding mental health. The Oehme family donates the money raised to MHA of Lancaster County to support the suicide prevention work we do...through education, advocacy and support of our county's residents.

  3. PA Suicide Prevention/Awareness Day At the Capitol

    Prevent Suicide PA will host Suicide Prevention Day at the Pennsylvania State Capitol on September 25, 2019 from 1:00-2:30 pm. Join suicide prevention advocates, suicide attempt and loss survivors, legislators, and mental health professionals for an important day at the Capitol. 2030 people died by suicide in Pennsylvania, which averages approximately 5 per day. In PA, suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death between ages 15-24, the 3rd leading cause of death between ages 35-44 and 4th leading cause of death between ages 45-54. Prevent Suicide PA, is a statewide, nonprofit organization solely dedicated to preventing suicide in Pennsylvania.

    An average of 21 U.S. Veterans are lost to suicide EACH DAY. How can you guide a struggling Veteran who won't ask for help? Is understanding the "first steps" to getting support the barrier preventing you from picking up the phone? The Suicide Prevention Coalition of Lancaster County is hosting an educational presentation by the Lancaster/Lebanon staff from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs. Come learn: • -An overview of the services offered at the Lancaster & Lebanon Veteran Centers. • -The option of Mental Health America's free guidance & support available to help navigate you (or a family member) through the mental health system locally. • -How to access local support services, as well as crisis intervention teams, who work within in our county. Presentation by the Veteran Outreach and Suicide Prevention service specialists, Robert D. Anderson and John, J. Lucas. Bring a lunch, colleague, friend or family member. All ages welcome.
